learn through play

learning-and-education-quoteAt Little Me Day Nurseries we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS), as set out by the Department for Education. Ofsted our governing body, use this framework when inspecting nurseries and early years settings and give gradings according to how well these guidelines have been interpreted and applied.

We use the EYFS document as a guideline to ensure that we are offering a play-based curriculum which supports all aspects of a child’s learning and development and that the needs of every individual child are met including children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL).  The standards made statutory by the EYFS will reassure parents that their children will be safe and well looked after. It also emphasises the importance of working closely with parents.

Under this framework, learning is grouped into the following areas:

The prime areas are:

  • communication and language

  • physical development

  • personal, social and emotional development

The specific areas are:

  • literacy

  • mathematics

  • understanding the world

  • expressive arts and design

The “Early Years Outcomes" document demonstrates how the four themes of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and the principles that inform them work together to support the development of babies, toddlers and young children within the context of the EYFS framework.

We use "Early Years Outcomes" as part of daily observations, assessment and planning for children. We can also use it as a guide to making best-fit summative judgements, with parents and colleagues, in relation to whether a child is showing typical development, may be at risk of delay or is ahead for their age. We will record this information in a Learning Journal and keep parents informed of their child's progress through handovers, parent’s evenings and nursery events.

We operate an open door policy and welcome parents to come and speak with us in the office if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s development. You are also welcome to book an appointment with your child’s key carer if you would like to discuss your child’s progress in more detail.
